Future Tense
The future tense is a verb tense used for a future activity or a future state of being. For example:
- I will jump in the lake. (This is a future activity.)
- I will be happy. (This is a future state of being.)
Types/Forms of the Future Tense
The future tense can be used in four different forms in order to show how the actions in the future behave differently in various situations, and they are:
- Simple Future Tense – used to denote an action that will happen in the future.
- Future Continuous Tense – used to indicate an action that will be taking place in the future.
- Future Perfect Tense – used to represent an action that starts in the present and will happen in the future.
- Future Perfect Continuous Tense – used to depict an action that is happening in the present and will complete at some point in the future.
Structure of the Future Tense
Look at the following table in order to understand the structure of the future tense.

Future Perfect Continuous Tense
Subject + Auxiliary verb(will) + Base form of the main verb + the rest of the sentence
Subject + Helping Verb(will) + Be + Main verb+ing + the rest of the sentence
Subject + Helping Verb (will) + Have + Past participle form of the main verb + the rest of the sentence along with the time frame
Subject + Helping verb(will) + Have + been + Main verb+ing + the rest of the sentence
For example: Karthik will meet me at the gym.
For example: Karthik will be meeting me at the gym.
For example: Karthik will have met me at the gym.
For example: Karthik will have been meeting me at the gym.
Analysing how the future tense changes its structure when used in the positive, negative, interrogative and negative interrogative sentences.

For example: Sindhu will walk to school tomorrow. | For example: Sindhu will not/won’t walk to school tomorrow. | For example: Will Sindu walk to school tomorrow? | For example: Won’t Sindhu walk to school tomorrow? |
Examples of the Future Tense
- He will check my website tomorrow.
- I shall repair your computer next month.
- We shall meet the Prime minister after two weeks.
- Mark will save me from those hurdles of life.
- You will teach me this lesson.
- She will sit on the chair definitely.
Future Continuous Tense Examples
- I will be writing articles on different topics.
- Robert will be reading various kinds of books.
- They will be playing football in that field.
- April will be having coffee in this coffee shop.
- Bob will be going to the library.
- We will be shopping in that market this Monday.
- We will be watching a movie in this Cineplex on next Friday.
- You will be shopping at that market tomorrow.
Future Perfect Tense Examples
- I will have written articles on different topics before you come.
- Robert will have read various kinds of books.
- They will have played football in that field before you reach.
- April will have gone to the coffee shop before she comes here.
- Bob will have gone to the library before he comes to the class.
- We will have shopped in that market before you come home.
- We will have watched a movie in this Cineplex before you come
Future Perfect Continuous Tense Examples
- I will have been written articles on different topics before you come.
- Robert will have been reading various kinds of books on this topic.
- They will have been playing football in that field before you reach.
- April will have been gossiping in the coffee shop before she comes here.
- Bob will have been studying in the library before he comes to the class.
- We will have been shopping in that market before you come home.
- We will have been watching a movie in the Cineplex before you come.
- You will have been shopping in that market before we come.
